External Warehouse Storage
As a start up company, one of the biggest tasks is to keep costs at a minimum and so getting a good price for your pallet storage is crucial in making that happen. The best way to make sure you do not get hit with unexpected costs is by making sure you provide the pallet warehouse company with as much information as possible.
What information do I need to provide for pallet storing?
The number of pallets that will be arriving
What are the sizes of the pallets, the height, weight and any other relevant information we need to know? This is because the height determines whether the goods can be stacked or not, as generally the rule is that warehouses will a height of up to 1.6m for their stacking.
Will they be on standard pallets, euro pallets or if not, which type?
Can the pallets be stacked in bulk and if so how high can they be stacked?
Do the pallets contain and fragile/hazardous items?
How much does pallet storage cost?
On average you can look to pay between £1.50 - £5.00 per pallet per week but the price depends on a few factors like the location, quantity and height of the pallets.
There are often 2 ways that a company charges for warehousing:
Per Pallet - Each pallet will have a standard price
Space - The amount of space used will be charged per sq ft
Another charge that you may come across is RH&D which stands for Receipt, Handling and Despatch and that charge is for taking in stock, putting it where it needs to be and transporting the goods from the warehouse to be ready for despatching.
Other factors that affect the price is the location of the external warehouse. The further away it is, the more the price would be.
