Sea Freight - Ocean Shipping

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

What is Sea Freight?

Sea Freight is a way of sending large amounts of goods using carrier ships. These goods are packed into shipping containers and then loaded onto a vessel. The average cargo ship carries approximately 18,000 containers making sea freight a cost-efficient method of transporting goods over large distances.

How Sea Freight Works

There is a six step process involved when using a shipment company:

  1. Select the shipping company you’ll use.

  2. The sea freight company will collect the goods from the supplier.

  3. Your package is transported to the port and will have to get past customs.

  4. The goods are then loaded into a container. If you’ve opted for FCL (Full Container Load) you’ll have your own container or will have to share a container if you’ve selected LCL (Less than Container Load).

  5. Once the goods arrive at the destination country, they’ll need to pass customs again before being released.

  6. The goods are then finally delivered.

Can You Track Sea Freight Shipments?

Container tracking is the way to track your sea freight. A container tracking system will give you the port details you need to know and where in the world your sea cargo is located. 24 hours a day you’ll be able to track the location of your container using your container number, bill of lading, booking reference number and the shipping line.

How Much Does Sea Freight Cost?

The cost of ocean shipping all depends on 3 factors:

  1. The size of your shipment

  2. Where you’re shipping it to

  3. How busy the shipping season is as that time
